Ok, so the headphones are popped in, good stuff, easy enough. But dangit I've got this cable hanging out of it all the time. What if I don't want to use it?

At least they're way better than this crap I had in there before.

There it is all nice and shoved in there, it's not quite sitting right, I can feel it on my ear a bit, and this might get annoying or painful after awhile. I think I can fix that though.

Guess I'll pull it apart and see what I can do.

Well, it is significantly larger than what I had in there. I could take the backing off, but I'd probably lose a lot of frequency response out of them. Assuming that it at least acts a bit like an enclosure/baffle.

I see, theres a lot of extra plastic molded on past the stitching on the cheekpad, and this is pushing down on the speaker and making the cheekpad push out. I trimmed these back all the way to the stitching, and everything fit more snugly.

Still stuck with that cable hanging out all the time. I know... Grab your soldering iron, because we're going splicing! Heres the supplies I picked up.

So heres an almost complete installation. I wired the female jack into the lid right to the speakers, then made a cable out of these current headphones, and my old crappy ones, with two male ends. Get the picture now?

Pretty much all set, and shows the final install. So when I want, I plug in the cable, and away I go. Not in the mood for music or just carrying the lid around? Unplug it! I just zip-tied the plug to a small elastic strap found at that location. Sure it's not going to stand being pulled on roughly, but it keeps it relatively in place.

I hope this gives you some ideas and alternatives to getting tunes... err I mean communications into your helmet in a sleek, comfortable and convenient way. Will this work in your lid? Who's to say. You'll just have to inspect it to see what you can work out. Thankfully this Icon Mainframe lid had these recessed and netted areas specifically for installing speakers for communications devices, so this install was a no brainer.

I think I should go riding now to celebrate! Rock on!
