ZX6E forum members, friends, and family are going to meet in Deal's Gap! Here's a recent AMA article on Deal's Gap and a little on the surrounding area. The dates are set and the hotel is reserved. Here's the skinny:

Dates
Wednesday, June 14 through Sunday, June 18, 2006

Lodging
The Microtel in Robbinsville is blocked for the nights of the 14th through 17th. The word on the street is that the rooms are clean and the hotel is motorcyclist friendly. Free continental breakfasts.

111 Rodney Orr Bypass
Robbinsville, NC 28771
828-479-6772 (call this number; the toll free number on the website can't be used for reserving a blocked room)

Here's what we have blocked off:
9 singles, nonsmoking ($53.96/$62.96)
2 singles, smoking ($53.96/$62.96)
17 doubles, nonsmoking ($58.46/$67.46)
2 doubles, smoking ($58.46/$67.46)
2 suites, nonsmoking ($71.96/80.96)

i.e. if you were to stay in a single for Wed + Thurs + Fri + Sat, the cost breakdown would be 53.96 + 53.96 + 62.96 + 62.96.

I stopped short of reserving the whole hotel; we have about 80% of it blocked off. I'll check a few months ahead and see how we are on space. If we are getting tight, I may try to block a few more for the stragglers. I think that the suites could be best used by attendees who happen to bring a family or something, so unless you need that kind of space/comfort, please don't reserve the suites unless they are the only rooms left.

Reservations
The quoted rates are for (Wed & Thurs/Fri & Sat) and are subject to change if Microtel corporate increases them for 2006. The rates above reflect a 10% discount and the discount will apply in any case. If they do happen to increase, they didn't think it would be much (< 10%). To reserve rooms in our block you must state that you are part of the 'ZX6E Forum' group. All rooms not reserved by June 1, 2006 will be released.

They do have a meeting room and we will be reserving it for at least one day/evening (it has already been paid for anonymously). We'll wait to see how we might best use the room before setting the day we reserve it.

As questions arise and things need clarification about the hotel or any other important info regarding the event, I will update this post and will let people know when it's been materially updated...

Now, pick up the phone and call - operators are standing by!

Be sure to sign the attendance list here.

Each room type is listed with 2 prices. Can you clarify why that is?

Thanks Duc Dude! I will be placing my reservation ASAP.

FYI - Just called to book my room. The toll free number can't be used for block reservations that as it goes to a call center, not the Robbinsville hotel. I guess I'll have to call this in tonight. I hope you folks don't hog all the good rooms before I get mine!!!

A quick check on directions shows me having to go down 129 to get there. smile2.gif And a bit over 600 miles. Hmm, not likely to be done in a single days riding unless leaving in the dark.

Yeah, it'll take awhile to get there but I'm excited to go! Now gotta get final approval from the wife and book the room. Troll, are you gonna go for the whole time? If so, I'd be happy to join ya for the ride down.

Only 281 miles for me! I will be also signing up soon! What is everybodies feelings on bringing a few extra non E riders! I thought only one of my buds was gonna go. But it looks like the whole crew from when Massive and I went wants to go! Six including myself!

Bringing other non-e riders don't sound like a bad thing...where else would they ever be able to see so many E's gathered in one place? The more the merrier!

I'm bringing my other half and he'll be on the ZZR1200. Sort of like the big brother E.

Yeah, probably. I don't have anything set in stone these days, nor any cash. So who knows. But shouldn't be a problem.

Still debating on whether or not to actually ride down. Although 600 miles is nothing, so maybe.

Just so sick of cruising damned interstates in the midwest for hours on end trashing rear tires...

Thanks to Sehochst for all his hard work! bowdown.gif

I was wondering if the other members from Ontario and the northern states planning to ride down or trailer?
Will you be going for the whole week or not until Wednesday?
Restlessone and I are planning to ride down, leave on Saturday June 11 and make a week of it. I thought we might join up along the way. We are 850+ miles so that is not going to happen all in one day, I was hoping to make it to Dayton Ohio on Saturday and be in Robbinsville on Sunday. Let us know if any of this will work out will your plans.

I'm in. Got my reservation # and everything.

At this point I'm thinking about trailering my bike down there and back, just so I don't have to wear myself out droning along the interstate. I'll have to see what my trailer sitiuation is going to be, but I'm thinking I might have some room for one, possibly two other bikes. Again, I'll have to see what happens as I don't own a trailer (currently) so I'm not sure if I can borrow or rent one for that week. I'll try to firm things up when next spring rolls around.

I'd also like to add my thanks to sehochst for doing the heavy lifting on this thing. Getting the reservations all figured out goes a long way towards making stuff like this actually happen.

I'm in too...with my wife...just in case I HATE you all...(grin) At least I'll have someone to talk to...

Say, are you planning on a "nice mellow sightseeing" day too? I'm sure at least some of us are bringing a partner who would like to go riding at least ONE day.

If not, maybe a few of us can "break away" from the madness one day to keep the other half happy.

BTW, how many of you actually KNOW in person another member of the forum. Snuf and Massive obviously know each other, anyone else?

This should be fun.

Are we going to group up depending on level of insanity? Skill? Wussieness? A curious mind wants to know...

And my thanks to sehochst too...

Personally, I haven't met anyone on this forum "live and in person". But I am looking very forward to the opportunity to do so.

After all, we have alot in common with one another - we ride the same bikes. That should say something about us as a group! Having been associated with several riding groups, I can testify that "the riding community" as a whole is very nice and friendly bunch of people. We'll find a variety of things to talk about other than 2-wheels.

The "significant others" will probably form great friendship among us too! The area that we will be in is a very short distance to alot of major attractions (Cherokee, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge). If you chose to take a day to spend with the wife - we would fully understand and I think you all would totally enjoy the area.

****

There are several months between now and then. So if you want to take a look at some of the attractions surrounding the area, here is a short list of websites to search.

http://www.gatlinburg.com/

http://www.cherokee-nc.com/

http://www.maggievalley.org/

http://www.smokymountains.org/

For those of you who might be interested in motorcycle history, Wheels Through Time in Maggie Valley is a nice museum with over 250 rare antique motorcycles and automobiles.
