I need the parts circled in the pic. I went out for a 'spirited' (ok fast) ride today and came back home with no problems, but I went to put the bike in neutral to park it and the shaft linkage just snapped right off.

I'm just lucky this didnt happen to me out in the middle of nowhere. it seems like a simple enough fix as there is nothing wrong with the shift pedal or the shaft itself..

just the linkage that connects it to the transmission. It seems like this is a major weak point and I'm sure others have come across this.

well with that said, does anyone have a spare laying around in good shape?

Looks like it may be holding the kickstand interlock in place?

its not really holding anything, and its not hurting anything either. i just put it there as added security to hold the kickstand switch in place. The two bolts underneath are all thats really needed.

I guess I could remove the 'wing' type nut and put a regular hex nut there instead. It was just easier.

now... does anyone have the part I need?

FWIW, I don't believe that I've seen that snapped off there in 6 years on the forum.

I snapped one off a couple of years back. I jammed the extension bar in the tool kit over what remained of the linkage, pounded it in place with a rock, and suicide shifted the bike until I made it home. laughing.gif

I think I bought an OEM replacement? Maybe a member had one on hand? It shouldn't too expensive and the dealership can probably get it to you faster than anyone else if time is a factor.

It seems to me that the linkage and the shift rod should be one assembly, instead of a tiny metal rod going through? Or be made out of something other than dried twigs?

I thought the same but I think that the problem is more due to the bike having fallen over on the right side in my case. Almost all bikes have a similar setup, and it's rare that there is a linkage failure there.

Check with your local dealership, it's possible they'll be cheaper and quicker. Even if it's not cheaper, if your dealership is worth their salt, they should be able to have it in before that auction is over. Mine typically gets parts in a working day.

It's 40$ on bikebandit, but I've had the dealership be cheaper than online before.

the part could have been damaged in the past and finally failed...Ive never seen one fail in over 30 years...

oh and its a wing nut...it has no place on a motorcycle...well unless its a Harley laughing.gif
