My old water pump slides right in but the new one will not go in about 2mm. Also, I can push the hard as I can and can not get it to fit onto that other rod/shaft.
Any solutions out there?

Have you tried rotating it to match the splines up on the shaft? Just a thought.

I know that should be the first question but that would be too easy. I do wish it were that. Has anyone encounted an issue where where the splines do not fit so great and may have been difficult to get them together? It seems like that could be part of the problem, maybe. After tearing the bike down to get that darn oil pan off I was thinking the pump was going to be the easiest part of the process! Just getting the oil pan off is no joke! Thanks for all replys as the next step is to actually pay some ass making $80 an hour to work on my bike is a bigger joke for me. Hell, I even made my own oil pan gasket because it was going to take a freakin week for it to come in. (was hoping the org gasket was not reusable but was not)

water pump p/n 49044-1087 which is the new part number for the old p/n 49044-1067.

not sure why they changed the part number.

Thank you. That is the one I have. The thing I think I narrowed down is that the piece in the crank is too fat to connect with the pump.

sorry for not adding to that. stupid thing pissed me off when i found out what was wrong with it. i took the pan off again after i made a gasket for it because i could not line the splines up. well when it broke, it broke the inside of the engine case that holds it in......
